Revisiting the Greatest Hits

…And a fEw new ones too.

Over the past two months of holidays and travels, I’ve gained a few pounds. That’s right, even my strict boxing regimen couldn’t stand up to the potpourri of nosh I’ve ingested.
But that’s okay, because the holidays are a time to enjoy and make merry, and make merry we did!

A quick roundup of some of our gastronomical explorations:

  1. I’ve been traveling to LA once a month and my family decided to join right before the holidays so we went out to a couple of spots. Nightshade in Koreatown was a definite highlight with some of the more inventive Pan-Asian cuisine I’ve had in a while. Highlight: the tom yum soup chips. Definitely earns a spot on the Asian List.

  2. Salt & Straw was on my list after I saw The World According to Jeff Goldblum episode (shoutout to Disney+). Some of the flavors were a bit out of my comfort zone, but overall: great ice cream and worth a visit if you’re in the area.

  3. Gjusta lives up to the hype. The bread is otherworldly, and there’s something about the pastries, man. Coming soon to the Brunch List.

  4. Badmaash LA has a ton of rave reviews from all over the place, and I get it: we want to make Indian food trendy. It’s more than just curry. But Badmaash LA just misses the mark. Don’t get me wrong, the food’s pretty darn good, but the service leaves something to be desired.

  5. Cofax has some of the best damn breakfast burritos I’ve ever had. Will be making the pilgrimage back down there ASAP.

  6. Upon a revisit, I think Burger House might be underrated. A fuller review to come here, but the tl;dr: it comes down to consistency.

  7. Some Florida sea food favorites hit their marks strong this holiday season, but the standout is still Captain Charlie’s, which is honestly the greatest dive of them all.

  8. Last, but most certainly not the least, we started off 2020 with a quick revisit to the No. 1 spot on the Burgers list, The Happiest Hour and I’m happy to say, the burger is as good as ever. Maybe even better.

There are definitely more culinary adventures in our future, but for now, I think I’m sticking to Juice Press for a bit — the boxing warmups have been a bitch.
